Oak Hill Lawn Cemetery and Crematorium in Hatfield has been formally recognised for excellence in bereavement services by the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management (ICCM).

Oak Hill, which is owned and managed by Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council (WHBC), has been awarded a Gold Standard in the ‘Bereaved Assessment Process for Cremation’ and a Silver Standard in the ‘Bereaved Assessment Process for Burial’.

The ICCM is the UK’s leading professional body for burial and cremation authorities, providing policy guidance, best practice standards, and accredited training to enhance the quality of bereavement services nationwide.

The awards are based on a thorough self-assessment process that is externally verified by the ICCM. The ICCM’s evaluation examines over 500 operational and service-related criteria to benchmark performance against national best practices.

In addition to the ICCM awards, Oak Hill Cemetery and its memorial gardens have been awarded the prestigious Green Flag Award. The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the UK.

Cllr Jane Quinton, WHBC Deputy Leader and Executive Member for Leisure and Community, said:

The delivery of efficient and quality services is a priority for the Council.  These awards are testament to the high standards the Oak Hill team uphold and to their continued commitment to providing respectful, high-quality service for mourners at their time of need.  I would like to thank the team at Oak Hill for their hard work and congratulate them on achieving these prestigious awards.
