Registering a death

It can be hard to know where to begin after someone close to you has died. One of the first things you will need to do is to register the death.

You should do this before the cremation or burial, unless the Coroner has provided a Coroners Certificate (to enable the burial to take place whilst they wait for information following an autopsy).

To register the death contact your nearest Register Office.

The Register Office will then give you a death certificate (called a green slip).

You should then give the green slip to the funeral director you have chosen to arrange the funeral.
